Berkeley, CA (July 5, 2022) — Tiauna George, senior director of grants management at the Energy Foundation, and Ariana Katovich, executive director of the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, recently joined the Earth Island Institute Board of Directors.
Based in Berkeley, California, Earth Island Institute is a nonprofit environmental organization and fiscal sponsor to more than 75 projects. Founded by legendary environmentalist David Brower, Earth Island is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
At the Energy Foundation, Tiauna George leads grantmaking and contracting operations, systems, and data. Prior to joining the Energy Foundation, George served as philanthropic operations/grants manager for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, managing grantmaking for the Justice and Opportunity initiative and, before that, the Education grantmaking program.
“We are delighted to add Tiauna to the Earth Island Board,” said Earth Island Board President Josh Floum. “She brings a wealth of relevant experience in the nonprofit and charitable-giving sectors, and adds another informed perspective to our discussions on ways to protect the environment.”
Ariana Katovich holds a J.D. and has a diverse background in nonprofit management, strategy, fundraising, outreach, and advocacy. Prior to the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, Katovich was the director of operations for Cutting Edge Capital and director of the Restoration Initiative and the Streets Alive! Initiative at Earth Island Institute. In 2000, Katovich received a Brower Youth Award from Earth Island for starting the University of California, Santa Barbara, Coastal Fund, which to date has generated millions of dollars for shoreline preservation.
“Ariana has been part of Earth Island for more than two decades, as a Brower Youth Award winner, as a staff director of our Restoration Initiative and Streets Alive! Initiative, and more recently as a member of our Program Committee. I’m very pleased to have her join our Board,” said Floum.
Earth Island Expands Its Project Support Team
Earth Island Institute recently hired Stevie Gaynor, Victor Gil, and Jianna Robinson as program advisors in its Project Support Program. The Project Support Program supports the organization’s fiscal sponsorship of more than 75 national and international environmental projects. The program advisor team has grown from four to five positions to meet the expanding work of its projects. In addition, Rachel Strominger in the Project Support Program was recently promoted to associate director, project support.
